Die Kärntner Straße ist neben dem Graben einer der wohl bekanntesten Straßenzüge der Wiener Innenstadt. Sie beginnt beim Karlsplatz beziehungsweise der Friedrichstraße und führt an der Wiener Staatsoper vorbei gerade bis zum Zentrum Wiens, dem Stephansplatz mitsamt dem Stephansdom. Dort wird die Fußgängerzone in westlicher Richtung vom Graben fortgesetzt. In nordöstlichen Richtung schließt nach dem Stephansplatz die Rotenturmstraße an, die bis zum Donaukanal führt.
