In Burgen und Schlössern wie hier im Schloss von Beersel findet man oft spiralförmige Treppentürme. Sehr oft hört man von Führern, dass die Wendeltreppen linksdrehend nach unten und rechtsdrehend nach oben sind, weil das für die Verteidigung der Burgen gegen rechtshändige Ritter und Soldaten einfacher war. Es ist nämlich einfacher, nach unten zu hacken, wenn die Treppe linksdrehend ist, denn dann befindet sich der zentrale Stützraum der Wendeltreppe auf der linken Seite. Für den Angreifer ist es umso schwieriger. Klingt logisch, oder? Aber es gibt nur wenige Beweise für diese Behauptung. Auf der Website Fake History Hunter kann man lesen, dass dies ein Mythos ist.
