Deftinge ist ein Dorf in der belgischen Provinz Ostflandern und eine Teilgemeinde von Lierde. Das Dorf hat etwa 2.000 Einwohner. Es liegt in der Denderregion und den Flämischen Ardennen, in einer stark hügeligen Landschaft mit Höhenlagen, die von 30 bis 70 m variieren. Deftinge wird erstmals 1050 als 'Davatinge' erwähnt, was auf den keltischen Namen Dabantinco zurückgeht. Dieser lässt sich in den Stamm 'dab' und die Suffixe 'ant' und 'ank' aufteilen; das erste begegnet uns auch in vollendeten Partizipien wie 'essend' und 'arbeitend' und drückt somit eine andauernde Tätigkeit aus, während das zweite 'entspringen von' wiedergibt.
