Houthem ist ein Dorf im Westen der belgischen Provinz Hennegau und ein Ortsteil von Komen-Waasten. Es ist ein ländliches Dorf, etwa drei Kilometer nördlich des Zentrums von Komen. Die älteste Erwähnung von Houthem stammt aus dem Jahr 1105. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde Houthem verwüstet. Bei der Festlegung der Sprachgrenze im Jahr 1963 wurde Houthem als französischsprachig mit Sprachmöglichkeiten für die niederländischsprachige Minderheit eingestuft, infolgedessen wurde die damals noch eigenständige Gemeinde der Provinz Westflandern nach Hennegau übertragen. 1977 ging die Gemeinde Houthem in der Fusionsgemeinde Komen-Waasten auf.
