Pascal Verbeken beschreibt in seinem wunderbaren Buch 'Grand Central Belge', wie das belgische Parlament 1892 das Gesetz zur Einführung einer einheitlichen Zeit im ganzen Königreich verabschiedete. Die Zeitbestimmung wurde hier im Königlichen Meteorologischen Institut von Belgien in Ukkel vorgenommen und an den Bahnhofsvorsteher von Brüssel-Nord übermittelt. Dieser ließ alle Bahnhofsuhrzeiten angleichen. Aber wusstest du, dass die Gemeindeverwaltungen, die die offizielle Zeit nicht auf Turm- und anderen öffentlichen Uhren anwendeten, rechtliche Konsequenzen zu befürchten hatten.
