Die stark duftenden Lindenblüten ziehen enorm viele Bienen an, die daraus köstlichen Lindenhonig herstellen. Aber auch Blattläuse lieben die Linde. Manchmal kommen sie so massenhaft vor, dass klebrige Honigtau-Tropfen aus der Baumkrone fallen. Diese sind in der Tat die klebrigen, süßen Exkremente der Blattläuse, die Ameisen lieben. Autofahrer, die unter einem Lindenbaum parken, finden es weniger lustig. Aufgüsse von Lindenblüten haben eine schmerzlindernde und beruhigende Wirkung; ein Lindenblütentee vor dem Schlafengehen kann Wunder wirken. Lindenholz wird für die Holzschnitzerei, Klaviertasten, Schuhabsätze und Zündhölzer verwendet. Die holländische Linde ist eine Kreuzung aus der Sommerlinde (Tilia platyphyllos) und der Winterlinde (T. cordata).
