Die Flatteriep (Ulmus laevis) ist ein Baum aus der Familie der Ulmen, auch Olm genannt. Das Blatt ist eiförmig bis oval, gefiedert mit doppelt gesägtem Blattrand. Die Unterseite des Blattes ist behaart. Die braungraue Rinde schält sich bei jungen Bäumen. Man erkennt ihn von anderen Ulmen daran, dass seine Blüten (und später die Früchte) auf langen Stielen stehen. Daher der Name Flatter- oder Stielulme.
Ulmen sind anfällig für die Ulmenkrankheit, die durch einen Pilz verursacht wird, der von dem Ulmenblattschneiderkäfer verbreitet wird. Da diese Käfer die Flatteriep jedoch nicht wirklich mögen, entkommt der Baum dieser Krankheit meist.
