Linkeroever wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts systematisch aufgeschüttet. Die Umgebung von Sint-Anneke war eines der ersten Gebiete, in denen Schlamm und grober Sand angeliefert wurden. Auf dem neuen Untergrund entstand eine karge Dünenlandschaft, die zweifellos zur Entstehung und zum Erfolg des Gastronomieclusters mit Sandstrand beigetragen hat. Wichtig für die Erhaltung der sandigen Landschaft ist die Dynamik des Winds in der Höhe der vorstehenden Scheldebiegung. Von Sint-Anneke aus hat man einen schönen Blick auf den Rest des Noordkastels, auf der anderen Seite der Schelde.
