Die zwanzigste Ausgabe des Artefact Festivals in Leuven war eine Suche nach künstlerischen Antworten auf soziale Fragen. Die Leitfrage lautete daher: Kann Kunst die Einsamkeit vertreiben? Das Thema „Alone Together“ thematisiert Alleinsein, Einsamkeit und Verbundenheit. Wir sind durch unsere Smartphones mehr denn je verbunden, doch Einsamkeit ist ein wachsendes Problem in der Gesellschaft. STUK bat internationale Künstler und Musiker, damit anzufangen.
Zum Beispiel hat der bekannte Leuvener Künstler Bisser ein monumentales Wandgemälde an der gesamten Seitenwand von Sac à Pain in der Maria Theresiastraat angefertigt. Bisser ist noch nicht bereit für sein Teststück, denn der Leuvener hat bereits an Wänden in Leuven, Gent, Ibiza und New York gearbeitet.
Horror vacui steht in der Philosophie für die Unsicherheit des Menschen, der mit Zweifeln und Ungewissheiten und unbeantworteten Fragen nicht leben kann.
