Der Bahnhof Basel SBB ist der grösste Grenzbahnhof Europas sowie der grösste und wichtigste Bahnhof Basels. Züge von Basel in die Schweiz, nach Italien und nach Deutschland sowie die TGVs nach Frankreich fahren vom Bahnhof Basel SBB. Regionalzüge ins Elsass fahren von Basel SNCF, dem elsässischen Bahnhof, der dem Bahnhof SBB angegliedert ist, aber über eigene Empfangsräumlichkeiten und Perrons verfügt. Ein Grossteil der Fernverkehrszüge, sowie eine S-Bahn-Linie und einzelne andere Nahverkehrszüge nach Deutschland enden oder beginnen in Basel SBB. Sie halten aber zusätzlich auch im Badischen Bahnhof, dem zweitgrössten Bahnhof in Basel, welcher von der Deutschen Bahn betrieben wird.
Das repräsentative Gebäude mit neobarocker Fassade wurde zwischen 1905 und 1907 von Emil Faesch und Emanuel La Roche erbaut.
