Im nördlichen Teil des Bezirks sind die Gemeinden teilweise mit der Stadt Zürich zusammengewachsen, während sich im südwestlichen Teil mit dem Sihlwald der grösste, naturbelassene und zusammenhängende Laubmischwald des Mittellandes befindet.
