Penzlin ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . Die Stadt ist Sitz der Verwaltung des Amtes Penzliner Land, dem drei weitere Gemeinden angehören. Der Ort bei Neubrandenburg ist ein Grundzentrum.
Die Stadt liegt am östlichen Rand des Müritz-Nationalparkes, 28 Kilometer östlich von Waren und 110 Kilometer nördlich von Berlin. Der Große Stadtsee im Südosten Penzlins, ein See der Mecklenburger Seenplatte, ist wie die anderen Seen der Seenplatte ein Produkt der letzten Eisvorstöße der Weichseleiszeit zwischen den Endmoränenzügen des Pommerschen und des Frankfurter Stadiums .
