Verl [fɛʁl] ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Nordrhein-Westfalens, die 15 Kilometer südlich von Bielefeld liegt. Die rund 25.000 Einwohner zählende Mittelstadt gehört zum ostwestfälischen Kreis Gütersloh im Regierungsbezirk Detmold.
Die Gemeinde Verl entstand 1970 durch Zusammenlegung mehrerer Teile der fünf Gemeinden des Amtes Verl. Die Besiedlung des heutigen Stadtgebietes in der Westfälischen Bucht wurde im Jahr 1088 erstmals schriftlich belegt. Verl wurde am 1. Januar 2010 zur mittleren kreisangehörigen Stadt erhoben.
