Kühlungsborn ist eine amtsfreie Stadt im Landkreis Rostock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Die Gemeinde entstand 1937 aus der Vereinigung der Orte Brunshaupten, Arendsee und Fulgen. Ein Jahr später erhielt sie ihren heutigen Namen und bekam Stadtrechte verliehen. Kühlungsborn ist eines der wichtigsten Seebäder an der mecklenburgischen Ostseeküste. Seit dem 15. Februar 1996 trägt die Stadt den Namenszusatz Ostseebad.
Kühlungsborn, der größte Bade- und Erholungsort Mecklenburgs, liegt an der mecklenburgischen Ostseeküste direkt an der Mecklenburger Bucht, etwa 25 Kilometer westlich von Rostock. Unmittelbar südlich der Stadt erhebt sich der Höhenzug Kühlung mit dem weithin sichtbaren Leuchtturm Bastorf.
