Die Kernstadt Blaubeuren liegt am Fuße der Schwäbischen Alb, 16 km westlich von Ulm. Die bei der Gebietsreform 1975 eingemeindeten heutigen Ortsteile Seißen mit Wennenden und der Steigziegelhütte sowie Sonderbuch, Asch und die Hessenhöfe befinden sich nördlich auf der Hochebene der Schwäbischen Alb, die Dörfer Beiningen, Erstetten und Pappelau südlich auf dem Hochsträß. Gerhausen sowie der Hauptort Blaubeuren liegen im Blautal. Der im Aachtal gelegene Stadtteil Weiler ist, wie auch Gerhausen, weitgehend mit dem Hauptort Blaubeuren zusammengewachsen.
Die Stadt grenzt im Norden an den Ortsteil Suppingen der Stadt Laichingen und an Berghülen, im Osten an Blaustein, im Süden an Ulm und Erbach und im Westen an die Stadt Schelklingen und Heroldstatt.
