Ihren Namen verdankt die Gemeinde dem Fluss Dietzhölze, die durch drei der vier Ortsteile fließt und in Dillenburg in die Dill mündet und somit zum Flusssystem des Rheins gehört. Weitere Wasserläufe sind der Breidebach, der in Mandeln in den Mandelbach mündet. Der Mandelbach fließt dann durch den Hammerweiher – das größte Gewässer Dietzhölztals – und mündet schließlich in die Dietzhölze. Die höchste Erhebung der Gemeinde ist in der Nähe des Jagdberges, Gemarkung Rittershausen, gelegen und ist mit 673,1 m auch die höchste Erhebung im Lahn-Dill-Kreis.
