Erftstadt ist eine mittelgroße Stadt mit 49.667 Einwohnern im Rhein-Erft-Kreis in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Sie entstand 1969 durch Zusammenschluss und Ausgliederung mehrerer amtszugehöriger Orte aus dem Kreis Euskirchen. Da keiner der Orte den Rang eines Hauptortes beanspruchen konnte, wurde die Stadt nach der durch das Stadtgebiet fließenden Erft benannt. Die Stadtverwaltung befindet sich überwiegend im Stadtteil Liblar und zum Teil im Stadtteil Lechenich.
