Baunatal ist eine Mittelstadt im nordhessischen Landkreis Kassel. Sie entstand am 1. Januar 1964 durch den Zusammenschluss der ehemals selbständigen Gemeinden Altenbauna, Altenritte, Großenritte und Kirchbauna in der Folge der Ansiedlung eines Werkes der Volkswagen AG im Jahre 1957 in Altenbauna. Später kamen noch die Dörfer Hertingshausen, Rengershausen und Guntershausen hinzu.
