Wendeburg liegt unmittelbar am nordwestlichen Stadtrand von Braunschweig. Das Ortsbild ist von der Landwirtschaft geprägt. Es sind in den vergangenen Jahren in allen Ortsteilen Neubaugebiete entstanden. Gleichwohl blieben die traditionellen Strukturen erhalten, so dass von einer „Idylle im Grünen“ mit hoher Lebensqualität zu sprechen ist. In Wendeburg ist zudem ein Freibad, das Auebad, sowie ein großes Einkaufszentrum vorzufinden.
Die Aue und Erse durchfließt das Gemeindegebiet von Süd nach Nord, im Fuße des Gemeindewappens ist sie durch eine goldene Leiste symbolisiert.
