Mettmann ist die Kreisstadt des Kreises Mettmann im nordrhein-westfälischen Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf.
Die Stadt liegt im Niederbergischen Land und blickt auf eine über 1100-jährige Geschichte zurück. Überregional ist Mettmann vor allem für das weltberühmte Neandertal bekannt, weshalb die Stadt den Beinamen Neanderthal-Stadt trägt.
