Ennepetal ist mit etwa 30.000 Einwohnern eine mittlere kreisangehörige Stadt, die zum nordrhein-westfälischen Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis im südlichen Ruhrgebiet gehört. Ferner gehört Ennepetal zum Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg, liegt am namensgebenden Fluss Ennepe und trägt seit dem 24. Juli 2012 offiziell den Titel Stadt der Kluterthöhle.
