Bei der Eröffnung im Jahr 1913 wurde dieser Bahnhof Danziger Straße genannt. 1950 wurde die Danziger Straße nach dem bulgarischen kommunistischen Parteiführer Georgi Dimitroff in Dimitroffstraße umbenannt, und der Name des Bahnhofs wurde entsprechend geändert. 1991 wurde er in Eberswalder Straße umbenannt, nach der westlichen Fortsetzung der Dimitroffstraße, die selbst aus politischen Gründen erst 1995 umbenannt wurde: Bahnhofsnamen unterstanden der Kontrolle der Stadtregierung, während Straßennamen nur mit der Mitarbeit der Stadtbezirke geändert werden konnten.
