Die Stadt Geldern liegt im unteren Niederrheingebiet im Westen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen und ist eine mittlere kreisangehörige Stadt des Kreises Kleve im Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf. Geldern trägt aufgrund seiner Historie den inoffiziellen Beinamen „Herzogstadt“.
Die Stadt Geldern liegt linksrheinisch im niederrheinischen Tiefland. Geldern liegt im Durchschnitt 24 m ü. NHN. Es wird durchflossen von der Niers, einem Zufluss der Maas. Die Gelderner Fleuth mündet in Geldern in die Niers.
