Hermsdorf ist eine Gemeinde im Landkreis Oberspreewald-Lausitz im Süden des Landes Brandenburg und Teil des Amtes Ruhland.
Hermsdorf und der heutige Ortsteil Jannowitz gehörten seit 1816 zum Kreis Hoyerswerda in der preußischen Provinz Schlesien und ab 1952 zum Kreis Senftenberg im DDR-Bezirk Cottbus. Seit 1993 liegen beide im brandenburgischen Landkreis Oberspreewald-Lausitz
