Die Stadt Kastellaun liegt in der Mittelgebirgslandschaft des Hunsrücks im Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis in Rheinland-Pfalz. Sie ist Sitz der Verwaltung der gleichnamigen Verbandsgemeinde.
Kastellaun liegt im vorderen Hunsrück etwa gleich weit entfernt von Rhein, Mosel und Nahe. Der Stadtkern liegt in einer Talsenke des Trimmbaches, der die Stadt und die Flur in Richtung des Deimerbaches entwässert.
