Die Burg Hornberg war nach ältesten Urkunden eine Gaugrafenburg und später eine Ritterburg auf einem steilen 228,6 m ü. NHN hohen Bergsporn über dem Neckartal oberhalb des Ortes Neckarzimmern zwischen Bad Wimpfen und Mosbach. Die Spornburg bestand ursprünglich aus zwei eigenständigen Burganlagen mit gemeinsamer Vorburg, die erst später durch eine Mauer umfasst wurden. Götz von Berlichingen lebte 45 Jahre auf Burg Hornberg, für die er sich schon als Jugendlicher begeisterte. Das zur Burg gehörende, nach Urkundenlage zweitälteste noch bestehende Weingut der Welt betreibt unterhalb der Burg auf Steilterrassen traditionellen Weinbau.
