Das heutige Gymnasium im Alfred-Grosser-Schulzentrum im südpfälzischen Bad Bergzabern geht zurück auf die Gründung einer Lateinschule im Jahr 1525. Bürgermeister und Ratsherren der Stadt hatten Martin Luthers Vorstellungen zur Schulreform aufgegriffen und Lehrer berufen, die das Evangelium „ohne allen Zusatz“ verkündigen sollten. Die Lateinschule bereitete die Schüler auf den Besuch der Landesschule in Hornbach vor, vermittelte aber auch denen eine weitergehende Bildung, die den Besuch des Gymnasiums nicht anstrebten.
