Als Freistaat Flaschenhals bezeichnete sich selbstironisch ein schmales Gebiet zwischen dem Rhein und dem unbesetzten Teil der preußischen Provinz Hessen-Nassau, das nach Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs vom 10. Januar 1919 bis zum 25. Februar 1923 bei der alliierten Rheinlandbesetzung zwar unbesetzt blieb, jedoch vom übrigen unbesetzten Deutschland faktisch isoliert und damit politisch wie wirtschaftlich auf sich selbst gestellt war. Um einen Staat im völkerrechtlichen Sinne handelte es sich dabei nicht.
