Wörth am Rhein ist eine verbandsfreie Stadt mit 18.274 Einwohnern im Landkreis Germersheim und im Südosten von Rheinland-Pfalz. Sie liegt gegenüber von Karlsruhe am linken Rheinufer. Die Ansiedlung des Mercedes-Benz-Werks Wörth, des größten Lkw-Montagewerkes der Welt, und einer Raffinerie in den 1960er Jahren führte dazu, dass die Einwohnerzahl von etwa 3500 im Jahr 1960 auf 9000 Mitte der 1970er Jahre stieg. Große Wohngebiete und ein neues Zentrum auf dem Dorschberg entstanden in der Folge der Industrieansiedlung. Seit 1977 trägt Wörth die Bezeichnung „Stadt“.
