Der Hornisgrinde ist eine Bergkette im nördlichen Teil des Schwarzwalds. Der Gipfel dieses Kamms liegt einige Kilometer südlich (1164 Meter Höhe), die nördliche Seite dieses Gebirges hat einen Gipfel von 1130 Metern Höhe. Der nördliche Teil dieses Kamms ist leicht erkennbar durch den beeindruckenden SWR-Fernsehturm. Der Zugang zum Gipfel kann manchmal durch eine Schranke gesperrt sein. Bei Frost muss man mit herunterfallendem Eis vom Fernsehturm rechnen!
Der Hornisgrinde-Nord wird oft in Kombination mit der Unterstmatt oder von Sasbachwalden aus erklommen. In beiden Fällen überquert man dann eine Brücke von fast 960 Metern Höhenunterschied von Rheintal.
