Willingen ist eine Gemeinde im Upland, dem nordöstlichen Teil des Rothaargebirges. Sie gehört zum nordhessischen Landkreis Waldeck-Frankenberg und grenzt direkt an den Hochsauerlandkreis in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Die urkundliche Ersterwähnung Willingens geht auf das Jahr 1380 zurück. In ihrer heutigen Form besteht die Gemeinde seit der Gebietsreform 1974, als die heutigen Ortsteile zur neuen Gemeinde Willingen zusammengelegt wurden. Willingen ist Wintersportort und wirbt in der Regel mit dem Zusatz Hochsauerland. International bekannt ist es durch die jährlich stattfindenden Weltcup-Skispringen der FIS an der Mühlenkopfschanze und der 2007 erbauten EWF-Biathlon-Arena. Wahrzeichen von Willingen ist ein Viadukt, das im Ersten Weltkrieg erbaut wurde und bis heute als Eisenbahnbrücke genutzt wird.
