Die Stadt von Setenil de las Bodegas hat etwa 3000 Einwohner, die buchstäblich unter einem Stein leben. Die natürlichen Höhlen von Setenil wurden als Basis genutzt, um Häuser herum zu bauen. Durch die Höhlen musste man nur die Hälfte eines Hauses bauen, und die Felsen bieten ausgezeichnete Isolierung gegen die Hitze und die Kälte. Man denkt, dass hier Menschen seit prähistorischen Zeiten wohnen.
