Es wurde am 18. Juli 1964 gegründet, wobei Jesús Aparicio-Bernal Sánchez der Generaldirektor von Radiodifusión y Televisión war, um den vorherigen Sitz von TVE, der sich am Paseo de la Habana in Madrid befand und von Francisco Franco eingeweiht wurde, zu ersetzen. Sein Studio 1 hatte eine Fläche von 1.200 Quadratmetern, was es zu einem der größten Studios der Welt zu jener Zeit machte. Seit 1965 beherbergte es auch die Produktion des Zweiten Programms. 1971 wurde der Hauptsitz von Radio Nacional de España dort in einem Annexgebäude des Hauptgebäudes untergebracht, das als Casa de la rádio bezeichnet wurde.
