Bar-le-Duc ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Frankreichs mit 14.625 Einwohnern im Département Meuse in der Region Grand Est .Die Stadt erstreckt sich auf einer Fläche von 23,69 Quadratkilometern, liegt innerhalb eines schmalen Tales und wird umschlossen von Wäldern und Weinhügeln. Sie liegt am Ornain, über den zahlreiche Brücken führen und an der Bahnstrecke Paris–Strasbourg. Sie wird auch vom Rhein-Marne-Kanal erschlossen, der unter Ausnutzung weiterer Kanäle eine schiffbare Verbindung aus dem Raum Paris bis an den Rhein ermöglicht.
