Die feudale Motte befindet sich in Mortemart, das als eines der schönsten Dörfer Frankreichs klassifiziert und in die Liste der historischen Monumente aufgenommen wurde. Eine der Motte von Mortemart ist ein Symbol für die Macht der Familie Drut und zeugt vom frühen Feudalismus um das Jahr 1000. Abbon Drut, Ritter und Herr von Mortemart, unterstützte den Grafen von La Marche gegen den König von Frankreich bei der Belagerung von Bellac im Jahr 995. In der Nähe befand sich die Pfarrkirche Saint-Hilaire, die Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts zerstört wurde.
