La Chatte Pendue erreicht eine Höhe von 899 m. Von einem Orientierungstisch des Vogesenclubs Straßburg aus hat man einen herrlichen Blick auf das Massiv des Champ du Feu, den Climont, den Donon und an klaren Tagen sogar auf den Schwarzwald... Die Originalität des Ortes liegt jedoch vor allem in seiner ungewöhnlichen Bezeichnung, die Gegenstand zahlreicher Interpretationen war. Früher wurde er "Pirre hhatte pendaïe", hoher hängender Stein, genannt. Die gutturale Aussprache des "H" oder Transkriptionsfehler von Landvermessern sollen aus hhatte eine Katze gemacht haben.
