Rye ist eine Kleinstadt in der Grafschaft East Sussex im Südosten Großbritanniens. Es gehörte einst zum Städtebündnis der fünf englischen Kanalhäfen (Cinque Ports). Der Ort wurde im Laufe der Geschichte oft angegriffen und zerstört, so 1377 durch die Franzosen. Mit dem Austrocknen des Hafenbeckens begann auch der wirtschaftliche Niedergang. Heute ist Rye eine viel besuchte Touristenattraktion, die sich ihren mittelalterlichen Charakter bewahren konnte. Rye liegt heute circa 3,2 km vom Meer entfernt, gehört zum Distrikt Rother und zählt etwa 4.600 Einwohner.
