Gerace liegt 93 km nordöstlich von Reggio Calabria. Die Nachbargemeinden sind Agnana Calabra, Antonimina, Canolo, Cittanova, Locri und Siderno. Der Ort liegt an der nordöstlichen Seite des Aspromonte auf einem Hügel. Der Ort ist Bischofssitz.
