Die Kirche Sant’Ambrogio in Mailand im Norden Italiens wurde ab 378 von ihrem heutigen Namenspatron, dem Kirchenvater Ambrosius errichtet, stammt aber in ihrer heutigen Gestalt großenteils aus dem romanischen Umbau zwischen 1088 und dem Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts.
In römischer Zeit diente das Gelände außerhalb des Stadttors Porta Vercellina, auf dem die heutige Kirche steht, als Friedhof. Nachdem Kaiser Konstantin 313 n. Chr. mit seinem Edikt von Mailand den bis dahin verfolgten Christen u. a. den Bau von eigenen Kirchen erlaubt hatte, waren hier Grabkapellen und Gedenkstätten einiger Märtyrer errichtet worden, unter ihnen Victor, Nabor und Felix.
