Die Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana besitzt den besonderen Salviati-Planisphäre. Das ist eine Weltkarte, die die spanische Sicht auf die Erde im Jahr 1525 zeigt. Sie umfasst die östlichen Küsten von Nord- und Südamerika sowie die Straße von Magellan. Anstatt imaginäres Material in unerforschten Gebieten aufzunehmen, wie es üblich ist, wurde auf dieser Karte entschieden, diese Gebiete bewusst leer zu lassen, was zukünftige Erkundungen einlädt. Es war eine klare Karte mit der Idee "Wir wissen es nicht". Wie der Autor Yuval Noah Harari in seinem Buch Sapiens sagt: "Es lädt den Betrachter ein, aufzubrechen und es herauszufinden".
