Die Abruzzen sind eine Region Italiens mit 1.305.770 Einwohnern . Sie grenzen im Norden an die Region Marken, im Westen an die Region Latium, im Süden an die Region Molise und im Osten an die Adria.
Obwohl die zentral auf der Apenninhalbinsel gelegene Region geographisch eher zu Mittelitalien gehört, gilt sie aus historischen Gründen als die nördlichste Region Süditaliens. Vom Mittelalter bis ins 19. Jahrhundert gehörte die Region zum Herrschaftsgebiet Siziliens und später Neapels und war wirtschaftlich und kulturell an die Regionen Unteritaliens angebunden.
