Die Standseilbahn Como-Brunate wird 1894 eröffnet und symbolisiert die Entwicklung des öffentlichen Verkehrs in dieser Zeit, als jedes Zentrum der Provinz durch eine Reihe von Linien des öffentlichen Verkehrs mit der Provinzhauptstadt verbunden war.
Es war die Zeit der industriellen Entwicklung und der Beginn des späteren „Massentourismus“.
1911 wird die Traktion von Dampf auf Strom umgestellt.
1912 wird die "Kanone" installiert, die jeden Tag um 12 Uhr einen Salut abfeuert.
In den Jahren 1934/35 wurde es vollständig renoviert, einschließlich der vollständigen Renovierung des Bahnhofs Brunate. 1951 wurde die Ausrüstung erneut geändert.
Ende der 1960er Jahre bringt der private Autoverkehr den öffentlichen Verkehr in eine schwierige Lage, wie sich in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts allmählich abzeichnet.
