Ommen liegt etwa 20 Kilometer östlich von Zwolle und 35 Kilometer nordöstlich von Deventer. Es liegt am Ufer der Vechte, nicht weit von der Mündung des Nebenflusses Regge.
Die Gemeinde besteht aus dem Städtchen Ommen, dem Dorf Lemele und mehreren kleineren Ortschaften, darunter: Vilsteren, Beerze, Eerde und Beerzerveld.
