Das Dorf Westerhaar-Vriezenveensewijk ist ursprünglich teilweise ein landwirtschaftliches Dorf und teilweise ein Moordorf. Das Wirtschaftlich Technische Institut Overijssel beschreibt, dass im Jahr 1850 zwanzig Familien in Westerhaar leben. Dennoch wird das Gründungsjahr 1885 angenommen, das Jahr, in dem der erste Stein für die spätere Rehobothschule gelegt wurde.
