Die Bergse Plaat ist eines der neueren Neubaugebiete, die die Gemeinde Bergen op Zoom errichtet hat. Das Viertel liegt im Südwesten der Gemeinde und wird begrenzt durch die Markiezaatsweg, die Laan von Reimerswaal und durch die Binnenschelde und das Zoommeer.
Die Plaat verdankt ihren Namen einer alten Sandbank, die früher existierte, als Bergen op Zoom noch an der Oosterschelde lag und somit noch Ebbe und Flut kannte. In dem Gebiet gab es früher eine Reihe von Dörfern, die durch die Sint-Felixflut im Jahr 1530 und danach verschwunden sind. Die Namen der versunkenen Dörfer sind in einer Reihe von Straßennamen auf der Bergse Plaat wiederzufinden.
