Die Kirche wurde im 13. Jahrhundert gegründet. Die unteren drei Geschosse des Turms bestehen aus Tuffstein. Im 13. Jahrhundert wurde der Turm erhöht und die Kirche dreischiffig mit schmalen Spitzbogenfenstern. Im 14. Jahrhundert wurde die romanisch-gotische Kirche durch Erweiterungen zu einer Kreuzkirche. Die Querschiffe sind größer als eines der Joche. Das Hauptschiff hat ein Kuppelgewölbe. An der Decke befinden sich Wandmalereien. Die Orgel aus dem Jahr 1788 wurde von Lambertus van Dam gebaut. Im Turm der Kirche hängt eine Glocke, die 1662 von Jurrien Balthasar gegossen wurde. Auf der Glocke ist u.a. das Wappen von Aernt van Hillama abgebildet, einem Mitglied einer angesehenen Familie, die damals das Schloss Hillama bewohnte.
