Der Doornse Kei stammt aus Skandinavien. Während der vorletzten Eiszeit, als eine Gletscherzunge bis zur Mitte der Niederlande kam und die Veluwe und den Utrechtse Heuvelrug formte, wurden auch Findlinge mitgeführt. Die meisten ausgegrabenen Findlinge sind als geologisches Denkmal in der Zanderij Maarn versammelt, aber ein Stein hat dem Tanz entkommen und wurde in den Kaapse Bossen auf einem Sockel platziert.
