Es zeigt den Besuchern verschiedene Höhepunkte der portugiesischen Entdeckungen , wie etwa die Muster der „Fünf Teile der Welt“, den See der Meerjungfrauen , mehrere Kugelbrunnen und vor allem eine große Sonnenuhr .
Der Name des Platzes bezieht sich auf den König, der den Bau des nahegelegenen Zollhauses anordnete.
Auffällig sind die zahlreichen kugelförmigen Springbrunnen , die aus dem Boden entspringen, sowie ein modernes Metalldenkmal, umgeben von einem See, auf dem die Statue einer Meerjungfrau steht. Oben auf dem Platz befinden sich die Socors-Kapelle und der Aussichtspunkt.
