Mueang Chakangrao (das alte Kamphaeng Phet) hatte dasselbe Stadtplanungskonzept wie Sukhothai und Si Satchanalai, mit separaten Zonen für religiöse Stätten, sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb der Stadtgrenzen. Mueang Chakangrao lag an einem strategischen Ort in der Nähe des Ping-Flusses. Die Stadt war ein Außenposten und war mit einer hohen Verteidigungsmauer und Festungen befestigt, die alle aus Laterit gebaut waren. Die rechteckige Stadt war 300 bis 700 Meter breit und 2.200 Meter lang.
