Miami [maɪˈæmɪ] ist eine City und der Verwaltungssitz des Miami-Dade County im US-Bundesstaat Florida mit 417.650 Einwohnern . Das Stadtgebiet hat eine Größe von 143,1 km². Die Stadt ist Teil der Metropolregion Miami mit etwa 5,5 Millionen Einwohnern. Der Name „Miami“ kommt von dem indianischen Wort Mayaimi , mit dem der Lake Mayaimi und der dort lebende Indianerstamm Mayaimi bezeichnet wurde. Die Stadt liegt an der Mündung des Miami River in die Biscayne Bay, die ein Teil des Atlantischen Ozeans ist. Nach Jacksonville ist Miami die zweitgrößte Stadt Floridas. Die Mehrheit der Einwohner Miamis spricht Spanisch als Muttersprache.
Miami liegt im Süden Floridas an der Ostküste des Bundesstaates. Orlando liegt 360 km, Tampa 420 km, Jacksonville 540 km und Tallahassee 760 km von Miami entfernt.
